What Is Hydroseeding?

 

Hydroseeding, also referred to as Hydro-Seeding, Hydro-mulching, or hydraulic mulch seeding, is a process of planting seeds that makes use of mulch and mixture of the desired seed design. The slurry also includes other ingredients such as tackifying agents (Tackifier), fertilizer, green dye, and fiber mulch. The slurry is usually transported in a tank that is either mounted on a trailer or truck. The slurry is then sprayed all over the already prepared ground.

• Short planting period, fast application: Planting using Hydroseeding usually takes a short amount of time. Using Hydroseeding enables quick planting even when dealing with large portions of land.

• Cheaper than Sod: Hydroseeding is typically less expensive compared to planting with sod; it’s, however, a bit more expensive than Broadcast or Drill seeding.

 

• High germination rates and easy to maintain: Hydroseeding results are usually quick (within the first week) with very high germination rates. Mowing maintenance usually starts by the 3rd or 4th week after the application date. Most hydroseeding contractors use fiber mulch in order to accelerate the germination and growth process. The mulch maintains the moisture around the planted seeds; this is what increases the rate of germination in hydroseeding.
